Description: |
The National Trust is charged with protecting England's architectural heritage. Under its stewardship, the 400-year-old Great Barn in Padiham near Burnley, Lancashire, has been restored to a condition where it can be used to host public events such as lectures, dances and groups of school children.
Following extensive consultation with Scofield, the earth floor was replaced with a high performance concrete floor made to resemble the natural colors and textures of indigenous to that area of Lancashire. Among the factors taken into account were the floor's ability to bear pedestrian traffic in the wet British climate, its resistance stains from food and drink spills, and most importantly its authenticity (which included developing a matte finish appearance). |
