Description: |
Scofield provided CHROMIX Admixtures for Color-Conditioned™ Concrete to add Color and strength to The Mermaid's Fountain at the heart of the Peter Pan-themed playground. The techniques used include moulding the concrete like clay, imprinting shapes such as starfish and leaves, and sandblasting it to expose aggregates seeded into the concrete.
Situated in Kensington Gardens, which were first laid out in the early 18th century, the £1.25 million playground replaces one originally funded by Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie in 1906. It is now a Grade I historic landscape in the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. The need for the playground to blend into its archaeologically sensitive surroundings was therefore uppermost in the designers' minds.
It attracted over 10,000 visitors during the first weekend after its opening by Rosa Monckton and her daughter Domenica, 5, to whom the Princess was godmother. |
