Q   Is it possible to use marbel to transition from ceramic to carpet over a distance 11 feet? The contractor does not recommend it, and says it may crack. The underlayment was not extended to account for the transition. Currently the ceramic runs higher than the carpet. What would you recommend? Should we be concern about the marble cracking?

A   I would share the contractors concern. There are many attractive transition pieces available.
