Q
I have been looking at carpet for our living room. I have heard a range of what is better, more durable etc. SOme have said nylon. some PET polyester. The room that we are looking to carpet is truly a room that most of the activity in our house occurs. We have children and pets. The last carpet we had showed path marks from the areas that were most traveled. I would like to minimize this as much as possible. Any recommendations?
A
HI Carol,
You should first understand that all flooring shows traffic lanes after time... even concrete.
Nylon is by far the best fiber for strength and resilience... how that fiber is spun, twisted and made into carpet also has a lot to do with how it performs. Low profile and density as well as a strong twist will give you the best performance. Cushy high piles tend to show traffic lanes the fastest.
Maintain your new carpet with a good vacumn and don't use soap to clean it and you will have a great looking floor for many years... budget about 3.00 per foot installed over a low dense padding and you will be in the right price range from a quality concious retailer.
all the best
