Q
I WORK FOR A COMPANY THAT INSTALLS CARPET ON PLYWOOD DECKS. THE DECKS ARE BUILT WITH 1 1/8" T&G PLYWOOD OVER 4X6 BEAMS- 4'OC. THE CARPET IS GLUED DOWN WITH A HIGH GRADE COMMERCIAL ADHESIVE. RECENTLY WE'VE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE PLYWOOD SEAMS BECOMING VISIBLE A WEEK OR TWO AFTER INSTALLATION. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT AS THE DECK EXPANDS SO DOES THE CARPET-BUT WHEN THE DECK CONTRACTS THE CARPET DOESN'T-LEAVING A VISIBLE LINE. CAN ANYONE HELP WITH THE DIAGNOSIS AND CURE??? THANKS, JOE
A
The plywood seams are "telegraphing" through for 1 or 2 reasons. 1) You have to install a floor patch on the plywood seams. Use an outdoor (freeze-thaw resistant) patch. 2) Check to see if your plywood is being attached by nails or screws set about 5" apart (peremeter and middle). this keeps your plywood from moving around as much.
By the way... An outdoor adhesive made for artificial turf might be a better bet than the adhesive you are using.
Many Thanks, Jim Brothers
