Q
I'm looking for information about putting carpet in our locker room. This would be a big help. Our physical plant doesn't think it is a good idea. Our student would like it. e-mail me at b.penrith@uni.edu Thank you
A
The Up Side...
There are several carpets that would work just fine in a locker room. The trick is to use a high quality hard back. Lees, Collins & Aikman, Shaw and Mannington all make 6' goods that would hold up well for your use.
Potential Problems...
These all require installation experience with this type back. A locker room will require hot water extraction as often as it used to require polish. It will require spot cleaning and vacuuming every day. The concrete subfloor must have less than a 4% moisture content.
Don't...
Choose a carpet with latex in it, such as an action back or unitary back. Too much moisture will cause those to fall apart. (Don't) Choose a carpet tile because it is easy for the moisture to get under the tiles. (Don't) choose a carpet with a cushioned back because the moisture tends to stay in the back and grow mold.
Many Thanks
