Karastan Featured in 4th Annual Hearst Magazines ‘Designer Visions: Cinema Style’
Designers Jim and Phoebe Howard selected Karastan's Fifth Avenue to create the dreamy guest bedroom DALTON, GA, December 2, 2010—Karastan rugs were in the supporting cast of Hearst Magazines’ fourth annual Designer Visions program. Following the theme of “Cinema Style,” interior designers created stylized homes inspired by classic films set in New York City. Three residences on the 58th floor of the Setai Fifth Avenue Residences were transformed: • House Beautiful—Something’s Gotta Give. Designers Jim and Phoebe Howard imagined the blended life and new home of award-winning playwright Erica (played by Diane Keaton) and her unlikely husband, hip-hop record mogul Harry (Jack Nicholson). The palette is driven by the apartment’s inescapable views of the Manhattan skyline awash in soft blues and silvery grays. Grounded in this color range, the Howards chose the subtle diamond block pattern of Karastan’s Zanzibar in a neutral driftwood tone to bolster rather than distract from the rest of the décor in the living room. They also used Fifth Avenue (Ateliere) in the guest bedroom, Gingham Stitch (Mercury Beige) in the master bedroom and Woolcheck (Silver) in the study. All of these Karastan styles are woven of 100% New Zealand wool. • Town&Country—Six Degrees of Separation. DesignerSteven Gambrel depicted the layered and lavish lifestyle of an arty couple by creating a setting rich in color and pattern. He selected Karastan’s Mamma Mia made of eco-friendly SmartStrand for the master bedroom, Worsted Stria (Terra Cotta) for the study, and Berwick Tweed (Mare’s Tail) for the living room. Worsted Stria and Berwick Tweed are crafted of 100% New Zealand wool. • Veranda—Wall Street. Designer Richard Hallberg imagined a dramatic study in black and white with winks of color for the lair of Wall Street tycoon Gordon Gekko. After a draining day of wheeling and dealing, Gekko comes home to the “best of the best” in quality furnishings and Karastan—the textured woven Graciano in the hall and luxurious Mamma Mia. The opening night event for Designer Visions: Cinema Style was held on October 12. The Designer Visions residences will be featured editorially in House Beautiful’s November issue, Town&Country’s December issue and the January/February issue of Veranda.
