Comments: Some good information, but a supplement to other books While the jacket says that it's for all levels, from beginners to masters, there are considerably friendlier books for beginners, such as Fabulous Finishes, Recipies for Surfaces, or The Practical Encylopedia. The layout is better for inspiration than instructions, and the instructions are rather sparse.
The focus is almost completely on oil-based techniques, rather than latex/water-based, which can also intimidate some beginners.
That said, there are some interesting techniques (esp. lacquer) that aren't covered in depth in other books.
Get it if you're interested in a big collection of ideas and techniques, otherwise, there are more usable guides. |
