At over 1,300m2, the Wellcome Wing of The Science Museum represented the biggest ever UK pour of an architectural cementitious floor. SCOFIELD Overlay in Stone Grey was selected for its looks and durability, and as the ideal flooring material onto which images may be projected from dramatic, space-age pods.
The Wellcome Wing comprises a main hall overlooked by three dramatic, cantilevered galleries housing sophisticated displays and equipment. Access to these galleries during construction was limited, and the short timescale of the fit-out meant a fast-curing flooring material was required so the facility could be completed in time for the official opening by HM Queen Elizabeth II.
The Science Museum is a prestigious establishment in the heart of London's museums district. The recently completed Wellcome Wing is devoted entirely to contemporary science and technology. |
